What were we thinking?
Well I was thinking that it looked pretty. I was not thinking how awful it would look after every bodily fluid possible had been secreted on it along with a mass of raisins that would hide in the lovely wool yarns.
Now the boys are getting bigger, and slightly less messy, I really want to make our living room a prettier space. To be honest there isn't a lot I really like about our living room at the moment except for our cable and cotton lights. Changes won't happen overnight, as the boys are still untidy and I don't want to see everything ruined immediately. However, if I start looking at some things I like now, we can slowly work there.
One of the first things I need to update is the ceiling lights as our current one needs replacing. I dream of a stylish fabric sofa as opposed to a worn and sinking leather one.
I also love the idea of a large coffee table. I like this one from Next as it has some storage in it too. A few beautiful cushions and accessories would help give the space a more grown up feel. So I suppose the question I am asking, is when is a good time to do this? My youngest is now 3. Do you think my lovely room would be ruined in minutes? Would it be better to wait a year or so? Am I just kidding myself that my three boys would ever keep a beautiful room clean?
In collaboration with Multiyork, but as always the opinions are my own.

i love the couch and cabinet
I love everything you've chosen, those lights!
My boys are 5 and I still wont invest on doing the house up, they are destructive! If you feel it's time go for it, you wont know until you try and hopefully there wont be too many mishaps.
It all looks beautiful! We've got creams and yellows in our living room, which we did recently, and it's surviving with our 2 year old!
Wow you were brave! I'm just so fed up of our tired looking room. That's hopeful then.
I think that the lights will be fine but maybe another year or so for a beautiful sofa.
They are lovely aren't they
Time and money get in the way of doing what you want. Think I will get the lights as a start x
love your ceiling light, it makes the room
I hope so, I've just ordered it!
I really like those lights on the left, not sure if they would survive a 3 year old though
I don't think that your fabric sofa would survive. Leather is much easier to clean than fabric, any liquid would just sink in a fabric one leaving visible stains.
I know exactly how you feel!
Lovely shades
i like you dream of big fabric sofa and shaggy carpets but with two toddlers i am making due with easy wipe old leather sofa and worn out wood flooring as for lighting i have two one is fixed to the ceeling one is a pendant one dont know what the previous tennents were on but they look odd next to one another im hoping to get nice ones fitted soon
I love the bright colours along with the grey tones
I don't think I'd want a sofa in that colour. I prefer darker as this would show up any dirt.
I feel your pain, we have a cream sofa and chairs but our problem is our 5 cats, so we have fleece throws all over the chairs to keep them clean
love the idea, wish i could get the imagination to get that creative!
the lightsare amazing.
I love that sofa although would not be a good colour in my house lol
best colour
i love the coffee table! im desperate for a new one but getting one to go with my lliving room decor is driving me barmy! x
Love the sofa , you can add allsorts of coloured cushons
love the coffee table! very stylish
Great choices. Wouldnt personally go for a light coloured sofa as will get lots of sticky fingers on it
I love the coffee table. But with 2 under 4 there I'm slowly changing the house to a wipe clean zone. Laminate instead of carpet. Leather sofa instead of fabric. and bye bye nice coffee table.
love the lights
I like the colour scheme and the idea of a coffee table with storage.
I think going for a light coloured fabric sofa your asking for trouble we have a hard wearing suede/cord sofa in beige and brown - we use a throw - everything marks it from the baby being sick, the cats being sick, the dogs wet paw prints, us spilling drinks/food, my 3 year old nephew picking his nose and rubbing it (eww) on the arms! the sun through the window. I think to be honest if you dont like your living room do it up now but just factor in the messy kids - coasters with felt tabs for drinks to stop scratching, a throw for the sofa which you can take off when they are in bed or washable covers!, a washable rug (ikea and aldi do some nice ones) and the grippy pads for the rug too
I love the lights
wow love the colours
Great items.
You're brave, the light sofa with those boys ;) Love the light and excellent reviews, never thought of looking at BHS before.
Lights are great!
