Stansted Mountfitchet Castle and Toy Museum

stanstead mountfitchet

I have been meaning to write this post up for quite some time, but hey life sometimes gets in the way. Last September we took the boys to Stansted Mountfitchet Castle. It is a wooden replica and as big man was studying castle in Year 2 it seemed a great day out.

We went on a rather miserable day. Entry costs just under £10 for an adult and just under £8 for a child. I was a little taken back as having looked on the Internet beforehand I thought you could decide if you visited the toy museum or not. This not the case. It is one price for all.

The castle and Norman village is reconstructed on the original site.

I have to say I did really enjoy the afternoon. It only takes a couple of hours to go around the grounds. This is worth knowing as the car park outside is pay and display. You can see what it is like in the stocks and how heavy chain mail is.

Middle man found out that the naughty spot isn't actually as bad as some punishments of years gone by.

I was taking no chances and stayed away from the fertility chair.

Chickens and deer roamed the grounds. This was quite a friendly little fella.

I have to say the toy museum was disappointing. It was just a few rooms stuffed full of old toys and does not add to the experience at all.

Overall we had a lovely afternoon, learnt lots and it fitted in really well with big man's Year 2 project.
