BBQ Pork Meatballs

These BBQ pork meatballs are sweet and sticky and a winner with all the family.

I have been feeling that I am stuck in a rut at the moment with my meals. Little man complains whenever we eat "proper" meat as it is too chewy for him. There is only so many times you can have his favourite of spaghetti carbonara!

I don't think I have used pork to make meatballs before - I usually opt for beef. however, as they are a lighter flavour, this allows the BBQ flavour to come through in the sauce.

We are currently working with Stokes, so I decided to use their Maple and Horesradish sauce, but any BBQ sauce would work. The Stokes sauce is packed full of flavour and is extremely sweet but with an extra kick from the horseradish.

I used panko breadcrumbs in this recipe as it makes the meatballs harder than using fresh ones.  I tend to find that my meatballs fall part when I use them, but they keep their shape with panko breadcrumbs.I used spring onions as I had some in the fridge, but a small amount of red onion would work well too.

BBQ Pork Meatballs

For the meatballs
  • 500g pork mince
  • 2 spring onions finely chopped
  • 75g panko breadcrumbs
For sauce
  • 3 dessert spoons of BBQ sauce - I used Stokes Maple and Horseradish BBQ sauce.
  • 1 tin of chopped tomatoes
  1. Mix the pork mince with the onion and breadcumbs.
  2. Roll into small balls and bake in an oven at 180C for around 15 mins.
  3. Mix the tinned tomatoes with the BBQ sauce and heat through. Add the meatballs to the mixture.
  4. Serve with rice or chips
