What do you buy an 8 year old boy?

What do you buy an 8 year old boy?

Or what do you buy a 6 year old girl? Sometimes when it comes to present buying, I don't have a clue. Luckily there is a fantastic new website to help me out called Wicked Uncle. You type in the age and sex of the child you are looking for and they come up with some original ideas at a range of prices.

I put them to the test with big man. Having 3 boys we have lots of toys and gadgets. I put him down as being 8 as he will next birthday and it came up with lots of fun ideas including a solar robot, chocolate London kit and a ukulele starter pack. When it comes to buying presents for my boys, I like to get activities that can be done and then disposed of. We are sinking in an overflowing toy room as it is. I therefore decided to chose a Cheese making kit (well I fancied trying this one!) and a Triop World. I have spoken about my theory on pets before and with a life cycle of around 6 weeks this kind of pet appeals to me. Wicked Uncle offer a complete package when it comes to present buying so you can also get the gift wrapped as well as purchasing a hand written card. How handy is that?

My products arrived within a few days and I was really impressed.

The card was hand written with the message I had requested and at only £1.95 extra I think it is a great addition if you are sending the present directly to the recipient.

The Big Cheese Making Kit is perfect for any little chef in the making (or their Foodie Mum!) The kit enables you to make mozzarella or ricotta. Big man and I set to having a go at making mozzarella.
All I needed in addition to the kit was whole milk and some rubber gloves.

Here is the mozzarella cheese we made in about half an hour! It tasted good too.

Our Triop World has been a success too. We have two little triops currently swimming around the tank. We did have more, but hey it teaches the boys about survival of the fittest as they seem to eat each other. Unfortunately my photography skills aren't that great to get a good photo of them.

I really like the idea behind the Wicked Uncle site and it is definitely worth looking at if you haven't got a clue what to buy a child. The gift wrapping and card options make it a simple way of sending a present to a friend or relatives little one.

I'd never heard of this site, but I'll keep it in mind as there's only so many Lego kits a woman can buy!

Oh I love the idea of both gifts - especially the triops. I may try those with my boys too. We are currently creating our own butterfly garden with a set E got for his birthday and he's fascinated by it! #TriedTested

Our Triop sadly passed away. I am now excited to see if he left any eggs. Just need to emulate being in a dessert.....
