My little man is currently a fussy eater. You serve him a ham sandwich and he will cry. The following day when you have run out of ham he will cry because he really wants a ham sandwich. After going on an inspiring children's lunch course last year, I know that making his sandwiches fun will encourage him try new things and make him less fussy. All you need is a sharp knife and some icing nozzles and fun designs can easily be made. Little man loves dinosaurs so I decided to make him a dinosaur themed lunch. A quick search on Google or Pinterest can give you so many ideas. I started by making a dinosaur sandwich using a tutorial on the Flora site. There are loads of child friendly ideas here and I am going to have to try the squishy bug tuna sandwiches next.

I also made a dinosaur egg. This was really easy. I started cooking a hard boiled the egg. Once cooked I smashed the egg to make cracks in the shell, before putting it in water with blue food colouring for a few hours. When you peel the egg, you are left with blue cracks on it. I think I could come up with some fine ideas using this technique for Halloween. I then placed it in a nest of carrot batons.

I made some bones out of cheese slices, I decided that it was easiest to do this free hand.

Lastly I used some raisins to represent soil. My husband thought that this was dinosaur poo! I therefore decided to add them into a flower cake case and make a flower out of cucumber and pepper.

My little man happily ate his dinosaur ham sandwich with no tears, just smiles. It didn't take long to make the lunch and seeing him eat it so happily has given me the encouragement to be more creative with his food in the future. Have you tried making food more fun for your children?
