At home we have been trialling an online literacy program called Reading Eggs. Big man loves it as to him it's playing games on the computer. He actually asks to play it. To me he is using the computer to help him learn to read. You start with your child performing a little test. This gives you an idea of their reading age and then starts them off at the correct level. There are then losts of little games for them to play which big man has enjoyed and finds funny. Games include clicking on letters that pop up on the screen, rhyming, and spelling. I love the independent learning aspect, as it means I can sit him infront of the computer for 10-15 minutes whilst I get dinner ready. The only downside is that it uses flash player. Normally this wouldn't bother me, but as our laptop is currently lost in transit (it's a long story!) big man hasn't been able to use it for a week. Having said this, I have now seen that they have a couple of apps! I will have to check these out and see if they are as good.
