Shuffle Play Doh Cards Review and Giveaway

Shuffle Play Doh card game

You may remember that recently we reviewed the Shuffle GUESS WHO game and really liked this travel sized version of the game. We were also given the Shuffle Play Doh cards to review as well. The game doesn't involve using Play Doh, although it will certainly give your children ideas of things to make. Instead the game is about finding similarities between cards and telling stories. You deal the cards out and each player turns over 3 cards. There is an unturned card in the middle and this is used for the first player to place their cards using similarities (same colour, both fly, all animals) to get rid of their cards. If they can't find similarities then they can tell a story linking the cards instead.

Play Doh Shuffle cards

The game is actually quite complex for small people. Big man (who is nearly 7) enjoyed it, but he did struggle with it at first. He found the matching similarities part a lot easier than the story telling bit. If you are looking for a storytelling game then this is nice and the children will like the play doh creations. There is a whole range of new card games that can be found by viewing the Shuffle website. I am pleased to be able to offer 2 of my readers a chance to have a go at the game themselves. Just complete the rafflecopter below. (Don't forget there is still time to enter the GUESS WHO giveaway too!)

Life Canvas Stationary Review and Giveaway

life canvas stationary

As a Parragon book buddy I was sent some stationary from their Life Canvas Range to review this month. I don't know about you but I write a lot of lists. Having made the mistake of doing them on sheets of paper and losing them all around the house, I now opt for a notebook instead. The Wild pocket notebook is a perfect size for jotting down all the things on my to do list.

The notecard set is also nice. They are like postcards with feathers as the picture and a coloured back.

I always like to write a little note when the boys send thank you letters for Birthdays so this is perfect. You can see other products in the Life Canvas range here.

Parragon have kindly offered a set to giveaway to one of my readers, all you need to do is complete the rafflecopter below.

Parragon Gold stars

On other Parragon related news, I thought I should update you on big man's Gold Stars challenge. In short the Gold Stars books are designed to help bridge the learning gap over the 6 week holiday. I have to say they have been great (we bought the Maths one too.) He does a couple of pages at a time and enjoys them. He isn't particularly keen on doing lots of work so having books like this where he can complete them little and often is excellent. Unfortunately having me as an ex-teacher as him Mother probably isn't the best as I mark very hard and I hope he is also gaining some exam practice tips for the future too!

We are part of the Parragon Book Buddies and have received these products to review.

Moshi Monsters Series 11 Finale and Giveaway!

 photo banner_S11.jpg

I can't believe the countdown has gone by so quickly but today is our series 11 finale. Please meet Weegul the Wobbly Dobbly.

Weegul

Spoilt, demanding, persuasive, I'm sure we have all met someone like Weegel.

Wobbly Dobblies are fangtastically cute but goopendously demanding, especially if they don’t get their way. When they are not asking passers-by to plop glacĂ© gooberries on their wafery horns, they are insisting on having their cushions plumped up and their backs scratched.

Wobbly Dobblies like waddling around Crystal Grotto but they can also be found collecting candied fruit in Pawberry Fields. They like everything and anything. Well except walking and choc chips.

So which is your favourite Moshling of the series. I like Darwin whilst middle man (our Moshi Monster expert) really took a shining to Doyle. If you are a fan or know one then why not enter our giveaway to win a set of the series 11 for yourself. Just complete the Rafflecopter below. Good Luck!

Nick Jr Leap

Nick Jr Leap
It is safe to say that our summer holidays aren't exactly going to plan. Rubbish weather and me being ill whilst trying to look after three little rascals was not on my agenda. But hey that is life and sometimes you just need to find something that will keep your children entertained for a bit so that you can rest. So when an e mail popped in my inbox about the Nick Jr Leap website, it really couldn't have come at a better time. Middle man is a lover of all things Nick Jr so getting him to play some educational games was a winner. As a parent you log your child(ren's) name and age and then they can start playing games with their favourite characters (Bubble Guppies, Team Umizoomi, Dora the Explorer) tailored to their age range.

screen shot of Nick Jr Leap

Middle man was happy playing with his Team Umizoomi friends helping them count flowers in a gardening game. I was happy as he was learning at the same time as playing as it has been developed with the Early Years Curriculum in mind. I would definately recommend having a look at the site if you have little ones (up to 7) that need something to entertain them before the schools go back.

Nick Jr are sending us a bordem busting kit to say thank you for sharing this information, but as always all opinions are my own.

Moshi Mosters Series 11 Countdown Day 15: Freddy

moshi monsters series 11

Wow it is day 15 already and today we meet Freddie the Seb-Swaddling Guzzler This Moshling is protective, boisterous but devoted.

Freddie moshling

If you need a letter sending then Royal Mail might be a better option. Seb-Swaddling Guzzlers are meant to deliver the mail, but they can’t fit many letters in their bulging beaks because they are always finding strange little critters called Sebs to take care of. If you spot a Guzzler without a Seb in its beak, look under its cap and you’re sure to find one snuggling underneath.

Seb-Swaddling Guzzlers live on the cliffs of the TakiTaki Islands but they often release their Sebs on Clickenham Green. They like fish heads and sand sculptures but dislike ghost pirates and disposable diapers.

Don't forget to come back tomorrow to see the last Moshling of series 11 plus a chance to win your own series 11 set in our giveaway!

Moshi Mosters Series 11 Countdown Day 14: Casey

moshi monsters series 11

Move aside Gordon Ramsey, this moshling makes you look like a happy chef in the kitchen. Casey the Croaky Cook is pretentious, talented but very nitpicky.

casey moshling

Croaky Cooks spend so much time shouting they can barely speak, let alone croak. But yelling is essential when you’re in charge of a bustling kitchen, and these masterful Moshlings create some of the finest meals in Monstro City, including the legendary Casserole au Croak, topped with a single strand of the finest Oobla Doobla in the land!

When they are not preparing feasts in places like the Sandy Drain Hotel, Croaky Cooks compare recipes in Lillypad Lake and Croak Creek. They like moshlings that shout "Yes Chef!" but really don't like dirty surfaces or frozen food.

Books About Town: Riverside Trail

You know me, I love spotting Wenlocks and Gromits so was excited to hear that this year in London there are trails of book benches. On Sunday we got the train to South Bank to do their Riverside trail. Be warned it is a long walk from Waterloo to the first bench at the Globe. Then there are a few spaced out until you have a whole bunch together. The boys enjoyed it and I was really impressed with the amount of walking that middle man did. He is not usually one for walking too much. If you go to the books about town website you can download the trail map as well as a quiz sheet. To be honest I think my other half was more interested in the quiz than my children.

I was worried that the boys would lose interest as only a few of the benches are children's books, but they were happy enough looking for any colorful bench they could find.

We also found a bonus one at Waterloo Station just as we were heading home. A lovely way to spend the day and walk along the beautiful South Bank.

Moshi Mosters Series 11 Countdown Day 13: Popov

moshi monsters series 11

popov

Today it is time to meet the Ultra Rare Popov Dancing Dinkinov.

Surly, silly, musical, I think that middle man would get on well with this moshling. Prepare to be astounded because Dancing Dinkinovs can boogie like there’s no tomorrow. When they are not backflipping over haystacks, juggling toy hammers or performing traditional Dinkinov dances they love feasting on giant bowls of goo-lash washed down with neat vobble-ade. Just be sure you don’t touch their huge, hat-shaped hairdos!
Most Dancing Dinkinovs tour with the Moshikov Circus but some can still be found folding their arms at high speed in Choppemov Square.

They like Battyfish eggs and fiddling on the roof but dislike happy statues and decadence.

Trunki Paddlepak Review and Giveaway

You may already know that we are big fans of the Trunki cases and have ended up purchasing 3. I had seen their PaddlePak's and loved the designs but as they looked on the small side, never purchased one. Recently, however, little man was sent a paddle Pak filled with Ella's kitchen treats to review in a day out, and I have totally changed my opinion on them.

puffa fish paddlepak

Little man chose the Blow Fish bag and was excited from the moment it arrived. He took it down to the swimming pool on our recent holiday in Vendee, packed full of essentials. It amazed me at how much fitted within it and I really like the way you fold it over to close it and give it a mouth.

what you can fit in a trunki paddlepak

Le Clarys Plage has a fantastic pool complex filled with water slides and rapids. Little man is adventurous and loved every second. Big man managed to get the PaddlePak absolutely soaked, however, everything inside stayed dry.

waterslides at Le Clarys Plage

Little man absolutely loves "My Puffa fish bag" and there are many designs to choose from. Personally I quite like the shark. They are surprisingly spacious and can easily hold a child's towel, goggles, swimming costume and snack if you are going to use it as a swim bag as I planning on.

The lovely people at Trunki have also offered me a second PaddlePak to giveaway to one of my readers. (You get to chose which design you would like.) Just complete the Rafflecopter below. Good Luck! Don't forget you can follow Trunki on Facebook.

Moshi Monsters Series 11 Countdown Day 12: Snuggy

moshi monster series 11 countdown

snuggy

Today I introduce you to Snuggy the Cuddly Wibble. Warm, playful, loyal this is a lovely little moshling that would be a great friend. Cuddly Wibbles are ultra cute and super snuggly but they are also surprisingly shocking. Quite literally! The fluffy purple onesies they wear are charged with static electricity which they use to power the mini heaters in their bobble hats and charge up their phones. My phone is forever running out of battery so maybe I need to take a leaf out of their book!

Cuddly Wibbles congregate in Tribbledown, a small hamlet past the Puzzle Palace, but they can also be found napping in sock drawers. They like hotel slippers but dislike dyed beards.

MND #Icebucketchallenge

The idea is simple. Someone nominates you to have a bucket of ice cold water tipped over your head. You donate to MND. You post your video on Facebook and nominate your friends to take the challenge too. Simple right? Well you would think so wouldn't you. Not for me.

As soon as I heard about the ice bucket challenge I knew it wouldn't be long until I was nominated. My sisters friend has MND so it is a charity close to our hearts. Sure enough she nominated me and out I went to buy a bag of ice. It wasn't that warm on Friday, but I had to get it done. I put big man incharge of the ice bucket and my OH in charge of the video.

I did it. It was cold. I screamed.

"Ummmmmm" came from my OH's mouth.

"Ummmmmm what?" I barked at him. It didn't record. His phone is very unwell and he is holding out for the new i phone release. The battery had died just as I had the bucket tipped over me.

Take 2.

Change of clothes, nominations, then big man tips the water over my lap! Very cold but in the wrong place.

Take 3.

Change of clothes and we did it! And here it is.

There are not many charities that I would do the ice bucket challenge 3 times for, but MND one of them. Money needs to be raised to find treatment for this disease. If you get nominated, please give it a go. It is only cold water! Either way please consider donating (text ICED55£amount to 70070 for MND #icebucketchallenge.)

Have you done the ice bucket challenge. Did you manage it in one take? My advice? Always check recording equipment and never work with husband's or children!

Moshi Mosters Series 11 Countdown Day 11: Mitzi

moshi monster series 11 countdown

mitzi

It is Day 11 of the series 11 countdown and here is Mitzi the Clockwork Crawly

Captivating, humble, sociable these clockwork crawlies are pretty relaxed but they are always losing their keys. I know how they feel. However, mine are normally down the sofa or in a toybox whereas theirs are the ones poking out of their heads! That’s bad news because unless these cute little Moshlings are wound up every morning they can’t even scuttle to the shops, let alone disco dance or hum lightning fast melodies in a piercing, high-pitched voice!

Clockwork Crawlies like making nests on dusty shelves but they can also be found in Midge Ridge. They like Whackcurrant lollies and texting but dislike sticky paper and blue light bulbs.

Moshi Mosters Series 11 Countdown Day 10: Lips

moshi monsters series 11

It is now day 10 of our Moshi Monsters series 11 countdown and here is Lips the Duck-Billed Brattypus.

lips moshling

Raucous, stroppy and radical they are never seen without their skateboards, Duck-Billed Brattypuses can travel at incredible speeds using their tails as makeshift propellers. And that’s just as well because these daring little Moshlings love setting up ramps and performing sick tricks. Sometimes they even upload videos of themselves hitting the sidewalk beak-first to GooTube. Ouch! You can find them by heading to the nearest abandoned swimming pool.

Moshi Mosters Series 11 Countdown Day 9: King Brian

moshi monsters series 11

Day 9 of our Moshi Monster series coundown and I bring you this ultra rare King Brian the Dandy Lion.

King Brian the Dandy Lion

Regal, snooty, deluded they aren't the kind of moshling that I would like to meet. Take a bow because Dandy Lions are convinced they are descendants of Emperor Meow, the legendary Regal Roarer who once ruled over the Barmy Swami Jungle. But they’re not. They’re just silly little Moshlings who enjoy wearing Twistmas cracker crowns and waving at passers by. All hail!

Some Dandy Lions make ends meet by performing at Fopkin Circus but most hang out on cardboard thrones in the Barmy Swami Jungle. They like shaking paws and tinfoil medals and dislike press intrusion and commoners.

Moshi Mosters Series 11 Countdown Day 8: Plumpty

moshi monsters series 11

It is day 8 of our Moshi Monsters series 11 countdown and today we meet Plumpty the Proper Pud.
Proper by name, proper by nature, these amazingly prudish Moshlings disapprove of anything new or remotely out of the ordinary. Gosh I wonder if I am infact a Proper Pud!?! Every Proper Pud’s head is filled with gooey magic icing that tastes like mulled Bongo Colada. I am unsure what is inside my head!

Plumpty the proper pud

Proper Puds live in converted mixing bowls near Knickerbocker Nook but they often congregate in the shops of Ooh La Lane around Twistmastime.

They like custard and old-fashioned values so maybe I am one!

Top 5 Tips for New Bloggers

Top 5 tips for new bloggers

I have been blogging now for 2 1/2 years. I would hardly call myself an expert, but I am not a newbie either, so I thought that I would put together a few top tips for anyone that is starting out.

1.Either go self hosted or buy a custom URL (if you are on blogger) if you are interested in doing reviews/sponsored posts or care about getting to the top of the Tots 100 rankings. If you do it when you start out it is easier than trying to change it later on.

2. Bloggers do not get freebies. Like it or not, not everyone blogs for the love of writing or recording their life. Some people want to get "free stuff." They have seen other bloggers getting "free stuff" and want some of that. From my experience you will only get approached by PR companies if you write good content. Yes bloggers get sent review items and sometimes get invited to amazing events, but they work for them. It takes time to write a good review, it takes time to build up and audience. Bloggers don't get stuff for free, they have worked for it. There is also no point in getting jealous of the opportunities that others get. Work hard and you will get amazing opportunities of your own. Oh and if you start earning money from sponsored posts you need to register as self employed. If you earn over the tax threshold you need to pay tax on your earnings. Never see it as "pocket money."

3. Comment on other blogs. You may write amazing blog posts, but if the only person that reads them is your Mum, then it is a bit of a waste. By commenting on other post and joining in linkies you will find new readers. I try to comment on posts if people comment on my blog, and it is a good way of finding blogs you like and they might even like yours.

4. Don't link drop. Whilst we love promoting our posts on all of social media, there is one thing that annoys people and that it link dropping. By that I mean, that you are in a Facebook group and you post a link to your amazingly brilliant blog post on the Facebook Wall. Most groups have post or comment threads for these.

5. No follow v follow links. Lots of bloggers get confused by this. When writing a blog post you may want to recommend a great place to eat and put a link to your favourite restaurant. This is fine and the link should be follow. It says that you like the restaurant and in the eyes of Google it will push it higher up the rankings in the search engine for great places to eat. However, if the restaurant have paid you to put the link in or given you a free meal at the restaurant then the link should be no follow. In simple terms, Google want the company to pay them lots of money to rank high on the search engine not pay lots of bloggers a small amount to get to the same place. If Google find out that you have broken their rules they can take away page rank from you and the company. This means they wont be found in a Google search. It is down to you if you choose to do follow or no follow. SEO companies will pay for follow links as sponsored posts. If you don't rely on Google for your traffic then you may want to do this. If you do rely on Google then it is probably best not to.

Moshi Mosters Series 11 Countdown Day 7: Darwin

moshi monsters series 11

Can you believe we are now a week into our series 11 countdown? Today we meet Darwin the Dithering Dodo. This is one of my favourites of the series, probably because I dither too much too!

darwin the dithering dodo

It’s hardly surprising Dithering Dodos are so rare because they can’t decide if they are coming or going. In fact these incredibly indecisive Moshlings can’t even decide if they can fly, and can often be seen dithering around towering ice ledges preparing to jump… before changing their minds. Again!

Take a hike to the Frostipop Glacier and you’ll probably find a flock of Dithering Dodos walking around in circles, trying to decide what to do.

They like cosy beanies and beak polish.

Moshi Mosters Series 11 Countdown Day 6: Benedict

moshi monsters series 11

It is day 6 of our Moshi Monster series 11 countdown and today we introduce Benedict the Broken Booble. Panicky, disorganised, frazzled, this moshling sounds a lot like me!

benedict moshling

Broken Boobles just about manage to hold themselves together because they are constantly cracking up. That’s why these eggy Moshlings use colourful ribbons to prevent their fragile heads from falling to bits. Unfortunately their arms are so short they are forever asking passers-by to help tie their bows.

Broken Boobles hang out alongside Boiled Boffins in Yellow Middle Meadow, but they also enjoy chilling out in eggcups on Beaster Island.

They like to roll down hills down hills and were an immediate hit with my boys.
