30 Years of Change #SpecialK30

Special K

Special K is a favourite of mine for breakfast. The boys are also rather partial to the Red Berries variety. For the first time in 30 years Kellogg's has changed the recipe for Special K, making it more wholesome. We were sent a box and I can tell you it tastes good. It does taste slightly different but I can't pin point how, so you will just have to try it for yourself. Kellogg's and BritMums have set a blogging challenge to share how we have changed in the last 30 years. (As far as I can tell, they just want us bloggers to dig out some embarrassing photos of ourselves. I think we can safely say that me in a swimming hat fits that criteria!)

Thirty years ago I was a 6 year old living in the beautiful village of Alresford. I would sit around making daisy chains and lambs tails whilst my best friend Rachel tried to convince me to eat clover because "you could get honey from it." I tried and I couldn't.

I used to love tap dancing and ballet. Although I was never keen on the net frill I had to wear around my neck in dancing shows.

The thing I remember most about my childhood was our brilliant family holidays in France. At the age of 6 we stayed in a caravan. The best part was going in and out of the toilet! The door was stiff, so my sister and I would run into it shouting "puffy power" This was a phrase from Scooby Doo. Or at least I thought it was. I only realised a few years ago that they were saying "puppy power!" My parents were subjected to frequent puppet shows if it rained.

There were two things my sister and I loved best about our holidays. Firstly we loved spending all day jumping in and out of the swimming pool or playing in the sea. Secondly, we loved spending time in the hypermarket Carrefour. Unusual I know, but my sister would spend hours looking at little pots of glue and little rubbers and highlighters. I would spend hours looking at all the yummy cakes on display. My mum and Dad were probably just happy to be in an air conditioned building not having to watch another one of our puppet shows.

I struggled to find a photo of myself at 6 as my Mum has them all. But I found this one.  Me, my sister and Dad having fun in the sea. I have absolutely no idea why I am wearing a yellow swimming hat! The only thing I can imagine is that I (or my Mum) didn't want to get my long ginger hair wet!?! I hope my boys have the same happy memories of family holidays as I do.

So how have I changed in 30 years? At first thought (and glance) I have changed a lot. I am taller, older and have blonder hair. I have 3 young boys of my own and the responsibility that goes with it.

Then I re-read my post and looked back on some pictures that I have taken recently.

I spend sunny days playing outside with my boys and may make the odd lambs tail and daisy chain.

I have swopped my tap dancing for a Bokwa class. My moves to Olly Murs are pretty good even if I say so myself, and no nett frills around your neck are required.

I play around in the pool and the sea on family holidays. I avoid going into Carrefour at all costs as I know I will find myself buying small pots of glue for my sister and spend hours looking at all the yummy cakes on display.

So you could argue that the essence of me is much the same and I haven't changed much at all in the last 30 years. You could also argue that I am a big kid at heart. I will let you decide. So what are your memories of the last 30 years? And what are your dreams for the next 30?

This is my entry for the BritMums/Special K “How I’ve changed Linky challenge” and link to www.myspecialk.co.uk.

Don't forget to vote for A Strong Coffee in the Brilliance in Blogging awards. We have made it to the short list and there are only 2 days left to vote. If you can spare a vote for the family category please click here.
